This is a step-by-step, n00b guide to rooting your GSM HTC Hero (Not Sprint) which combines lots of guides and my own knowledge to give you a complete guide!

When you root, you will be able to...

Get Android 2.1 / 2.2! - With a custom ROM.
Use WiFi tether - So your PC/iPod Touch will be able to connect to your phone's 3G
Use A2SD - So you can store apps on your SD Card
Install custom ROMs - To make your hero lightning fast!
Have the freedom to do whatever the hell you like with your Hero!
